Dr. Shea brings a life of experiences to his therapeutic practice. He approaches therapy from the theoretical and philosophical principles as embodied in Depth Psychology, blended with Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT).

Depth psychology is valuable for its focus on the unconscious aspects of the human psyche. It offers a deep understanding of the hidden motivations, emotions, and conflicts that influence behavior and thought processes. This approach:

  • Helps in uncovering and addressing underlying issues that shape behaviors and mental states.
  • Facilitates self-awareness and personal development by exploring inner conflicts and past experiences.
  • Provides effective tools for psychotherapy, helping individuals work through traumas and deep-seated emotional issues.
  • Considers the whole person, integrating mind, body, and soul in the healing process.
  • Utilizes myths, dreams, and symbols to gain insights into the collective unconscious and individual psyche.

Through the therapeutic process, Dr. Shea develops an emotionally intimate relationship with his patients, allowing them to develop a deep emotional understanding of themselves. Through this understanding, the patient is inspired to initiate a journey of self-discovery to find their authentic self.

Philosophy

Philosophy on Individuality

"Becoming a genuine individual requires learning the oppositions within oneself. Those who fail or refuse to face the oppositions within have no choice but to find enemies to project upon... unless a person deals with the not-friend within they require enemies around them.”
– Michael Meade

Philosophy on Problems and Self-Love

“Why do we focus so intensely on our problems?... They have the magnet power of love: somehow we desire our problems; we are in love with them much as we want to get rid of them... There is a secret love hiding in each problem”
– James Hillman

Philosophy on Freedom

"Here you are! In the sacred present... you can’t change what you did or what was done to you. But you can choose how you live now. My precious, you can choose to be free."
